Recent Resignations Narrow the House Margin (Dems are UP)


Recent resignations in the House has given the Democrats a leg up in the current transfer of power happening in the House.

3 Congress Members Resign

Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D)

Resigned after Ethics probe into claims that she, along with family members and associates, gravely misused COVID-19 relief funds.

Congressman Eric Swalwell (R)

Faces allegations of rape and housing an illegal alien.

Congressman Tony Gonzales (R)

Decided to resign after revelations that he has an affair with a former staff member who later committed suicide by fire.

The Congress members were under investigation by the Ethics Committee, the resignation of each member effectively ended the investigations. The current House split is Democrats 212/Republicans 217.

  • H.R. 8369

Prohibits federal funds from being made available to any educational institution that releases a student’s records for the purpose of immigration enforcement.

  • H.R. 8214 W.A.R ACT

Would allow for all middle class families to receive a refund credit on consumer goods tha have seen a hike in price as a direct result of the US Israel-Iran conflict. This credit would include “costs reasonably attributable to the U.S. Israel-Iran conflict.” Covered goods are noted as fuel (gas), electricity and “consumer staples.”

  • H.R. 8042 Empowering Women in Agriculture Act

If passed, would amend the Food Agriculture Conservation and Trade Act of 1990 to allow for targeted financial outreach to women farmers.

  • H.R. 7285 Bulletproof Law Enforcement Vehicles Act

Would authorize funds granted under the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to be used for upgrading law enforcement vehicles with bulletproof technology, including bulletproof windows.

Designates post office located at 500 Sergeant Gonzales Drive in Fort Davis, Texas as “Sergeant Manuel Sillas Gonzales Post Office.”

  • H.R. 5430 FORTIFY ACT

Would authorize funds allotted to schools under the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to be utilized to hire school school resource officers, particularly in ”underserved areas.”

  • H.R. 3844 Texas is the New Hollywood Act of 2025

Provides certain financial breaks for production and television companies filming in Texas. Would also require ”minimum in-state spending thresholds for such productions.”

  • HR 820-Bottles and Breastfeeding Equipment Screening Enhancement Act

Requires TSA to create guidelines around screening processes that limit contamination of breast ilk and baby formula for mothers travelling with children by air.

  • HR 3203- Journalist Protection Act

Codifies criminal offenses for those who cause intentional physical harm to a journalist.

  • HR 5294- For the Relief of Miguel Lopez Luvian Legislation

Support for the naturalization of Miguel Luvian, a legal immigrant who was detained and deported shortly before a scheduled deportation hearing.
